The project while maintaining relations with the preexisting street, adds a new volumetric formally characterized for its curvilinear geometry able to build conditions for the development of the school program while rebalancing all the lines and angles of the peculiar shape of the terrain.
The different functions are articulated in two volumes (old and new) and are characterized by different objectives of the architectural proposal, and different program requirements of a school to receive children from the age of three to ten years old. For the old building, the project aims to recover the interior courtyard and all the elements that characterize the four facades.
The interior spaces are rehabilitated, depending on the functional requirements that the building has to meet and ensuring the balance with their specific architectural character. In this building were installed the functions related to public use ensuring a smooth relationship between the school and the community – office, meeting room of the parent’s association, staff room, office and service areas of services, library, computer room, curriculum enrichment / music and related services. The new building houses the classrooms, gymnasium, nursery, canteen, kitchen and related services and multipurpose rooms.
The new volume is characterized by: the Southwest by a facade comprising a blade system which will produce a variation in the building associated with games, creativity and rigor. The Northeast by a curvilinear facade made of concrete and successively isolated and covered with tiles. The use of tiles as well as constituting a coating of waterproof nature, seeks to establish a relationship of continuity with an ancient technique well dominated by the culture of constructive Ovar. To ensure continuity of the spaces two covered bonds were planned between the buildings in both levels.
